Life is so very sad...

When Rogers was in his late teens / early twenties he was overcome with a fascination with hands as representations of the person. Several of his songs (including this one) spoke of idle hands, vindictive fingers, and sleeping arms.
In Please the significance of hands culminates in "Sometimes I think I'm sad / When my hands have lost all feeling".
Depression is- sometimes- not just the presence of hopelessness, but also the absence of emotions and abilities. Why don't I feel the same as others? Where did these people get such moral strength? Why don't I have the capacity to be a good person?
Please. Enjoy the questions that Please might bring to mind.

Lyrics

 Life is so very sad
I put my hands down to the floor
Sometimes I swear I’m mad
I put my hands down a little more

Oh, if I lose you
Which I don’t ever want
To
Do
That
Please won’t you please?
Please won’t you please?
Please won’t you please hold me back?

I am so very bad
I lift my hands to the ceiling
Sometimes I swear I’m sad
When my hands have lost all feeling

Oh, if I lose you
Which I don’t ever want
To
Do
That
Please won’t you please?
Please won’t you please?
Please won’t you please hold me back?

I get up in the morning
I go to work each day
We all have our dreams
And we let them slip away

Oh, if I lose you
Which I don’t ever want
To
Do
That
Please won’t you please?
Please won’t you please?
Please won’t you please hold me back?
